GOCA Scholarship
The Guyana Ottawa Cultural Association Inc. (GOCA) is pleased to announce the launch of its Annual Scholarship for eligible youth of Guyanese ancestry who have demonstrated a high potential for successful studies at the post-secondary level of education.
WHY
GOCA, through its Education and Culture Committee, is placing increased emphasis on youth and their education, and views support for educational pursuits as a significant step in that direction. GOCA will provide monetary support to the scholarship recipients to recognize and encourage them in their educational pursuit.
WHO
Specifically, the GOCA Scholarship will be awarded annually to deserving students of Guyanese ancestry who are about to enroll in or have already enrolled in a post-secondary institution in Canada. Potential applicants will have to demonstrate eligibility/merit by providing proof of Grades required for post-secondary study and other forms of documentation outlined in the application criteria. Applications are open to students pursuing all fields of study.
WHERE
GOCA will notify the recipients in writing and use one of its annual events to announce the beneficiaries of the scholarships. While these scholarships will not be renewable, past recipients could be considered in instances where financial resources permit.
WHAT
The award will take the form of a monetary donation. The value of the award will be $1000 payable by cheque in the name of the recipients.
WHEN
Applications will be accepted from the beginning of January to the end of May every year through the GOCA e-mail at gocainc1991@hotmail.com. The selection of deserving candidates will be done prior to the beginning of the school year, by the end of June. A designated group of expert evaluators will undertake the selection process. Scholarships will be awarded on an annual basis.
